Tovo from Line of Sight Gaming and Sharku join this week’s crew as we make that final push toward Anaheim!
With less than two weeks until Blizzcon 2015, Blizzard HQ isn’t dropping a ton of news. But the news we do have is incredible, especially if you like esports.
Activision Blizzard (the parent company) is creating a new eSports Division in the company, separate from both Activision and Blizzard Entertainment games. On top of that, they’ve hired top talent in key positions to help grow esports in the company. Steve Bornstein (former CEO of ESPN and NFL Network) joins as chairman while Mike Sepso (co-founder of Major League Gaming) joins as a senior VP. We assume that this means only good things for all of Blizzard’s newest games, but will this help or hurt raiding in World of Warcraft?
Patch 6.2.3 is on the PTR, and there may have been some things we didn’t cover as well as we should have, like cross realm Mythic raiding! But will all of the changes in the next patch be able to extend the life of Warlords of Draenor until the next expansion?
In the Battlenet News, OVERWATCH closed beta is out! The guys will give you their first impressions about the heroes, the gameplay, and the hype train that is Blizzard’s latest IP.

Convert to Raid #198 - Patch 6.2.3 Coming Soon™
Tattva from LoS Gaming and Mick Montgomery join the CtR crew this week for some really great discussions and lots of laughs!
Blizzard unveiled patch 6.2.3 last week on the test realms, and it may address some of the players’ concerns. Some of what’s inside patch 6.2.3 are new Timewalking dungeons from Cataclysm, Cross Realm Mythic raiding, the moose mount, and a return of the valor system!
On this show, the crew covers the patch piece by piece and spark some interesting conversations. Are these added items and systems worthwhile, and why are they now being included in the game? Who is Blizzard trying to reach, and how do some players view it? And more importantly, can these new features lure back players at the end of an expansion?
Plus, Blizzcon is right around the corner, and Linkin Park was announced for the closing ceremonies. No matter how you feel about the band, there are many things to look forward to both in person and on the virtual ticket, and the guys give you the rundown.
Also, Overwatch Closed Beta starts October 27th! This show is jam packed, so strap in!

This week, there wasn’t a ton of World of Warcraft news, but there’s still a lot to talk about as we all get closer to Blizzcon 2015. Like Blizzcon 2015!
The map and schedule for Blizzcon has been released, and there were a couple of notable things missing, including no live raid event. Is it the recent guild turmoil, no new raid to preview, too many other games, or is it that Blizzard’s focus is more on eSports? The guys discuss whether or not this is a significant move by Blizzard.
Pepe has already made his way into players’ hearts, now a plush Pepe toy moves into the Blizzard gear store and he also gets several costumes in game, like knight, ninja, viking, and pirate. The crew couldn’t resist having some fun with it during the show.
Overwatch will be coming to a stream near you! Thursday, Oct. 15, Blizzard is teaming up with a couple of streamers to introduce live Overwatch gameplay on Twitch. While this says nothing about when the beta will be released, it should whet players appetites even more for this new game.
Plus, Hearthstone nerfs a pivotal card for Warriors, we take your questions on mythic requirements and dps balance, and have a lot of fun along the way. Enjoy!

This week, Tattva (from LoS Gaming) and Sharku join the crew!
The face of raiding may be changing as Blizzard announced nerfs to 6 encounters on Normal mode Hellfire Citadel this last week. In some cases mechanics were tuned down so that casual guilds didn’t have to worry as much about personal responsibility as much, and on other bosses Blizzard removed mechanics altogether. Is this a case of tuning the encounter so that more people can see it, or could this be telling of what’s to come for normal modes of the future?
The Road to Blizzcon divided over the last weekend as we saw tournaments for both the Asia-Pacific region held in Taipei and the EU region hosted in Prague. The crew will give you some of the action and predict how well some of these competitors will stack up against their American counterparts.
In the Battlenet News, the guys go over some of the new stuff in Starcraft’s Patch 3.0! A new user interface and Whispers of Oblivion missions are now available on live. In Heroes of the Storm, Lt. Morales is now live along with a new Try Mode so that you can test heroes better than before.
Plus your questions, a bunch of silliness, and much more!

We have more information about the split between the raiders of Method and the new guild Serenity from a Manaflask interview this week. While there are no reports of personal drama, team focus and leadership have been discussed by both sides. The guys will give you the details inside!
Blizzcon is only 6 weeks away! It’s time to check out what we’ll be getting with our Blizzcon tickets and virtual tickets this year. And why is it that World of Warcraft always gives out the best stuff?
Plus, Archimonde changes help teams of all sizes, our Leading the Raid segment looks at guild hopping, plus a listener question on the upcoming class changes for Legion.
In the Battlenet News, Diablo’s latest season starts to wane, and we’ll have a bit of a recap on the NA Qualifiers for Heroes of the Storm in Vegas and more!
Wed, 16 September 2015
This week, returning friends Gizmozord (Lords of the Storm Podcast) and Sharku join the CtR crew!
Top World of Warcraft raiding guild Method saw some roster changes this week as players left to form a new guild, Serenity. Midwinter also lost a couple of their top players to the new guild as well, including their main tank (and friend of the show) Slootbag. What does this mean for the top raiding scene for Legion, and do these moves say anything about the raiding in Warlords of Draenor or WoW in general? The guys discuss it inside.
Also, Gamereactor.eu released their Gamescom interview with Ion Hazzikostas and Tom Chilton, and it brought up several interesting questions for our panel. Should expansions be serialized or self-contained (or as raiders, do we care)? Does the progression path look interesting and fun for Legion? And has Blizzard been successful in making the most of their worlds?
In the Battlenet News, StarCraft 2 released a cinematic and announced that their next expansion, Legacy of the Void, will be released after Blizzcon on November 10th. Also, a Diablo Q&A from Reddit, a review of Rexxar in Heroes of the Storm, and looking forward to the HotS American Championship this weekend in Las Vegas.
Plus your questions, a special show announcement, and much more!

This week, Sal from The Converted Podcast joins the crew to talk about the latest happenings in WoW and more!
While we were away, patch 6.2.2 took flight on September 1st as promised, and with only 2 hours of downtime on U.S. servers. Not only is the the flight patch for Draenor, but also introduces Mercenary Mode in PvP, has some Timewalking loot changes, class changes, as well as a slight buff to all the horde racial traits.
Blizzard’s Senior Game Designer Jonathan LeCraft appeared at DragonCon in Atlanta to give us more insight into what’s coming for WoW’s next expansion — LEGION. Some of the topics he discussed included Demon Hunters, overhauls for other classes, professions, transmog, and even some lore items. The CtR crew digs in to give you their takes on some of the details!
In the Battlenet News: Overwatch Coming Soon™, Diablo Season 4 goes live, Rexxar is released into the Nexus, and Heroes of the Storm’s new silencing mechanic for toxic players. Plus the gang answers your questions and so much more in another fun show!
Wed, 26 August 2015
This week, the guys welcome friend, recent Heroes of the Storm tournament winner, and former raid team member Sharku to the show!
Patch 6.2.2 is currently on the PTR and was announced to be heading to the live servers on September 1! Not only will be an update to include PvP mercenary mode and flying, but a moose mount (finally!), changes to Horde racial, Timewalking dungeon loot changes, and the addition of Legendary Ring catch-up quests.
There are a few significant class changes also slated for 6.2.2, including buffs for Monks, Shadow Priests, Feral Druids and Protection Warriors. But since we’re deep into the Hellfire Citadel raid (the last of this expansion), is this a case of too little, too late? The crew discusses inside!
And there are many headlines in the Battlenet News too! Hearthstone releases The Grand Tournament expansion, Diablo patch 2.3.0 is now live, and the monk comes to Heroes of the Storm. The guys give you their thoughts and all of these new things and more in another fun episode!
Wed, 19 August 2015
This week, the guys are joined by Jules Scott from Tauren Think Tank!
World of Warcraft PvP developer Brian Holinka made an appearance during the NA Arena Qualifier for Blizzcon to talk about the upcoming changes for PvP in WoW’s next expansion. One of the big reveals was that player stats will be based on the character’s specialization firstly, not their gear. That in conjunction with other changes should allow Blizzard more power to tune PvP than ever before without affecting PvE.
The flying patch was NOT released this week, but MMO-Champion.com did parse the numbers for flying achievements on 2 million current players. The numbers don’t reflect a real drive for players to fly in Draenor. Could it be that this patch is coming too late in the expansion, or is there really no need to fly in WoD?
Also, Reddit goes crazy over last week’s show, the Blizzcon goodie bag is revealed, Diablo, Heroes and Hearthstone make the Battlenet News, and one news article asks the question: Does Blizzard need World of Warcraft anymore? Plus, more on the Well Played Party at Blizzcon, your questions and more!
Wed, 12 August 2015
This week, Rho from Realm Maintenance joins the crew as they go into detail about the announcements on the next expansion for World of Warcraft!
Blizzard was the talk of Gamescom this last week as they unveiled the next expansion — LEGION. Illidan returns, new zones and new raids will be created, and a new class — Demon Hunter — will land on Azeroth in 7.0. The players will guide you through some of what we know about LEGION, including Artifact weapons, class changes, some lore, BIG PvP changes, and what this new expansion may unlock for you. It’s a jam packed show, so strap in!
Wed, 5 August 2015
This week, Blizzard announced a subscription loss of 1.5 million for Q2 this year. Hopefully this week’s expansion announcement at Gamescom will help keep the balance!
Mick Montgomery (host of The Starting Zone, StormCast and more) joins the CtR crew as they tackle the recent sub loss and possible reasons behind it. Even though WoW remains the top MMORPG, there seems to be a lot of criticism over Warlords of Draenor. Do the numbers reflect a failure by Blizzard to hold a particular audience, or is it that the MMO genre is losing ground overall? The guys go over viewer reactions, their own, and try to figure out how Blizzard may want to correct for future content.
And if you believe in terrific timing, Blizzard lands on Cologne, Germany for Gamescom 2015 and will announce their next expansion for World of Warcraft! There are a lot of speculations, and the crew will give you those and their own predictions for what this expansion will have in store. It’s a fun show with a lot of meat on it — hope you’re hungry!
Mon, 27 July 2015
This week, member of Convert to Mythic raid team and Hereos of the Storm podcaster Gizmozord (Lords of the Storm) joins the CtR crew!
Method crosses the finish line first in Race to World First: HFC edition. The guys take a look at the standings overall, the number of wipes some of these teams went through, and the nerd screams after downing mythic Archimond.
Patch 6.2.1 is now up on the test realms, and flying isn’t the only BIG thing in development. Mercenary Mode is in development too, which will be a new option when queuing for Ashran and unrated battlegrounds. When players elect to be a mercenary, they are eligible to play for the opposing faction to shorten queue times. Is this a good fix for Warcraft PVP? The crew discusses how the imbalance of player factions and racials come into play, and whether or not Blizzard should try other avenues.
The Warcraft movie footage from San Diego ComicCon was leaked, then suspended, then leaked and suspended again! The guys describe what they saw there and in the Warcraft movie panels now available online. Clancy Brown can speak Orc!
Also, Hearthstone will release The Grand Tournament expansion in August, Leoric swings into Heroes, and one of esports most vocal opponents gets canned. Plus your questions and more on this very fun show!
Mon, 13 July 2015
This week, CtR welcomes the guys from Line of Sight Gaming, Tattva and Tovo!
In a recent interview, Cory Stockton (Lead Game Designer) announced that there were no more raids planned for Warlords of Draenor. If that’s the case, how long will we have to wait for the next expansion, and is there enough content in 6.2 to bridge the gap between Hellfire Citadel and the next expansion? What can Blizzard do to avoid another long lull between now and the next new content?
Guilds are racing to world first in Hellfire, but how do they stack up? Where are some of our favorite top guilds at, and what new players have come along since last time? The crew will also take a look at some of the mythic encounters’ difficulty and give you a good overview, including when we might see a world first kill of Archimonde.
Plus, the Warcraft movie is at the San Diego ComicCon! We’ve seen the pictures of all the armor and weapons, a great Legendary VR app that shows a 3D flyover of Stormwind, and heard all of the great news about turning a movie into an epic franchise. One thing WoW fans won’t see outside of SDCC, however, is the Warcraft teaser trailer, which won’t be released to the public until November. Is that a necessary part of the movie biz, or should Legendary release that trailer to the fans?
Also, the CtR crew will get to know Tattva and Tovo, what they do and how they try to put together their 2 Minute Tips for raiders and so much more in this very fun show!
Mon, 29 June 2015
Yes patch 6.2 dropped this week, but it’s time to celebrate 4 years of CtR (and Koltrane’s last show)!
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll groan at all of the bad jokes the guys have in store for you. And they’ll play back a TON of incredible audio bits created since the show began.
Visit Koltrane “In his robe,” Head to Blizzcon in a panda suit, join the guys as they make fun of raid bosses before they down them in epic fashion, sing along with Pat Krane, and finish it off with a very special legendary tribute to the Funky Monk himself. And there are plenty of laughs, feels, and fortune cookies along the way!
Don’t worry, WoW players, they’ll also give you their impressions of patch 6.2, the recent developer interviews, the Hellfire Citadel raid instance and much more. A little something for everyone in this very special, SUPER show.
Mon, 22 June 2015
The crew returns for another CtR this week, and this time they bring along world class raider, Treckie!
Blizzard didn’t give much warning on the actual date, but patch 6.2 is set to launch Tuesday (June 23)! It’s time to get your characters ready for all of the great new content — the Hellfire Citadel raid, Tanaan Jungle, flying (to be released in a future patch), and much more. But what are some of the things you can do to make sure you’re on top of your game?
Another large part of this release is the final chapter of the Legendary Ring quest line. The guy will give you some the basic idea of what you’ll need to do — all while trying not to give you too many spoilers along the way.
Ion Hazzikostas, lead game designer for WoW, followed up last week’s Q&A with more on the forums this week. Included are more insights to some of his answers on the stream, and he also fields various new questions, ranging from class questions to encounter design and more.
Also the Battlenet News returns as Blizzard lands at the PC Gaming Show at E3 to talk Heroes, Diablo, and StarCraft II, and we finally see how Tavern Brawls will work in Hearthstone.
Plus, there’s a bunch of news for CtR Guild members, including information for the big Blizzcon party, the new raid tools exclusively for the CtR Guild and more!
Mon, 15 June 2015
This week the CtR crew is back to talk all about the busy week in WoW!
Blizzard posted a few announcements and other articles this week, the first being that Warlords Season 1 will be ending soon. This means patch 6.2 is around the corner, and we may even be able to make a good guess as to the exact date!
The rage/debate for flying in Draenor has come to a definitive position from Blizzard. Players WILL be able to fly in Draenor after one character earns the achievement of Draenor Pathfinder. There are a number of different parts to this achievement (which the guys will tell you about), and once you get it all of your other characters will benefit!
Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas and Community Manager Lore (Josh Allen) held the long awaited Q&A for game development, and covered a wide range of topics: Flying, Garrisons, Professions, Dungeons, Classes, and of course Raiding! The crew will take you through their highlights and give you the good, the bad, and the hilarious.
Plus, the 6.2 Armor Preview, the news from all around Battle.net and much more!
Mon, 8 June 2015
This week, the guys are back for all the latest WoW news… and beyond!
Players got a preview of Hellfire Citadel in the form of a new post on the World of Warcraft website. Inside, it gives a broad overview of the characters and encounters raiders will face along with some very green pictures. Designers also gave some of their notes and insights on how they approached the encounters from a design perspective, which is a very cool twist!
MMO-Champion released the latest raiding statistics for Blackrock Foundry. And while the health of raiding overall looks great, is there too large of a gap between heroic difficulty and mythic? The guys will give you the breakdown inside this episode.
The Q&A with Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas was pushed back a week to make room for a Heroes of the Storm lifestream event, and players erupted online. The CtR crew takes a look at some of the issues Warcraft players are facing right now, including the fact that WoW has to share the spotlight with some of the new Blizzard IPs.
Because it looks like we’re heading into a new age of Blizzard Entertainment, CtR tries out a new segment! The Battlenet News takes a look at the big headlines from other Blizzard games. Heroes of the Storm officially released this week introducing Johanna as the latest hero, Hearthstone will be offering hero skins soon™, and Overwatch has been releasing a ton of gameplay footage over the last couple of weeks.
Also inside: World of Warcraft is to be one of the first to be inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame, fans react to Koltrane’s announcement last week, your questions and much more!
Mon, 1 June 2015
This week, the gang is back for another romping ride through the latest news and opinion in World of Warcraft!
Blizzard’s Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas is making headlines again, this time in a recent Polygon article. Hazzokostas announced that Draenor will not see flight at all, and this direction includes future expansions. Does flying matter if the developers can create meaningful flight points? When does staying on the ground mount become more of a hassle? And what about all the new flying mounts Blizz is releasing?
Also, in the latest Dev Watercolor article, itemization will be changing in patch 6.2. There are plans to change personal loot so that it’s more competitive to the group loot system, bringing more rewards and making announcements to the raid. Also, the further players progress into Hellfire Citadel, the more they will be rewarded with higher item level loot. Will these changes make a huge difference in how raids are viewed, or is this just a refinement of systems?
Also inside: how to get ready for the next patch, Koltrane’s BIG announcement, a follow up on the casual hardcore issues from last episode, your questions and more!
Mon, 18 May 2015
The CtR crew is back for some great discussions, so get ready!
Since our last show, Blizzard announced a 2.9 million subscriber loss in Q1 as a part of their quarterly investor update. What does this very large drop in players mean, and is there any way to curb the dramatic shifts?
This last week, Blizzard blasted more players out of the game in a giant ban wave that has reportedly kicked over 100,000 players for botting. The guys take a look at some of the specifics that could be behind Blizzard’s motives and how some players get mistakenly put into the crossfire.
Gamesbeat interviewed Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas recently, and inside the article he takes on a lot of different topics including raiding! The guys discuss some of the things he says, as well as voice some of their own frustrations about trying to defeat the highest difficulty encounters with a limited schedule. Is it even possible to be a “casual hardcore” player in Warlords?
Plus, Leeroy Jenkins turns 10, updates on the Warcraft movie, more raid testing on the PTR, the 6.2 Bonus Event Weekends and more!
Mon, 4 May 2015
This week, the guys bring in a very special guest — Sloot, main tank and raid leader for Midwinter, the US 1st, World 3rd guild!
First, how has the Blackrock Foundry raid instance compared with other tiers for Midwinter, and how did they manage to pull so far ahead of everyone else this time? Can they do it again for Hellfire Citadel, and do they have any new plans for patch 6.2?
The guys also go in depth into the encounters for the next raid now being tested on the PTR. What has been seen on the PTR, and what is there to look forward to? Also, will these fights be just as reliant on personal responsibility as we’ve seen in Warlords of Draenor so far, and is that a good thing? The guys will even talk about some crazy mechanics that raiders will need to understand before heading in!
Plus, a preview of the Tanaan Jungle, more on Timewalking and what it’s meant to be, a recap of the Heroes of the Dorm tournament, your questions, and much more!
Mon, 27 April 2015
This week, the CtR crew sets their sights on patch 6.2, as more raid bosses get tested on the PTR!
Four of the new bosses for Hellfire Citadel were put up for testing, including Kilrogg and Gorefiend, which have some unusual mechanics. And while the mechanics are interesting, there may be something more interesting happening in the background!
The Warcraft movie release was moved back to June 2016. Does this mean that the film is able to contend with other summer blockbusters, and what are the pros and cons of such a move?
More information was released and revised for patch 6.2, including some cool new pets, profession updates, and yes… costumes for Pepe. Even the legendary ring was updated to reveal the new group proc and how it may upgrade over time. And we’ll give you the details!
Plus, the WoW Token hits the EU, more on the new Timewalking feature and what it means for 5 man content, your questions and so much more!
Mon, 20 April 2015
This week Blizzard put patch 6.2 on the test realms, and if you’ve been looking for more content, here it is!
The Tanaan Jungle will open, and includes a brand new raid tier with Hellfire Citadel. Archimonde will be the last boss of the instance, which brings up a couple of different questions. Will this tier bring in a storyline involving the Burning Legion? Will we see Sargeras? And on the other hand, what does this mean for the real world timeline of Warlords of Draenor?
Opening the Tanaan Jungle is only the beginning of new content. Players will be adding to their garrison with the new Shipyard, which will not only be the initial way to get to Tanaan, but will lead to naval missions as well.
A new Mythic dungeon difficulty was announced for 6.2, where players can tackle tough team content for item level 680 loot on a weekly lockout. But is reworking of current content a great catch up tool, or something that will be set aside rather quickly?
The Timewalking feature will also be coming to 6.2, where old school dungeons from previous expansions will be scaled to challenge players that have out leveled them in a new sort of “heroic” difficulty. Does this light the way for more scaled content, like Timewalking in old school raids, or will this “renewing” of old content be met with indifference?
Plus, more on the Legendary Ring (and it’s new proc), some BIG class changes for raiders in 6.2, and more in the jam packed episode of Convert to Raid!
Mon, 13 April 2015
This week, the CtR crew is joined by streamer and mythic raider Brutall!
The WoW Token hit North American realms, and after just a few days the market price is down considerably from the original 30,000 gold price set by Blizzard. Were players surprised by the movement, and is the WoW Token a “win” for all parties involved?
Blizzcon general admission tickets go on sale this week. Are you prepared? The guys break down the information and get you ready to hit your F5 buttons!
Also, a group is managing to 5-man flexible Blackrock Foundry difficulties, and are now 10/10 normal and getting into heroics. What does it take for groups like this to succeed?
Plus, Forging Gorehowl, building your own Shadowmourne, our deepest apologies, your questions and much much more!
Mon, 30 March 2015
This week, the CtR crew has the latest on what’s happening in WoW — so buckle up!
Blackrock Foundry Raid Finder Wing 4 was released this week, and experiences were varied. While some groups struggled, others breezed through in minutes to make this one of the shorter raid content releases in Warlords of Draenor. What makes for some of the differences, and what can you do to help make this a smooth fight for everyone?
The WoW Token is coming soon™ according to Blizzard, and with the latest patch have created a WoW Token area in the Auction House user interface. Though it’s not live yet, once trading begins you’ll be able to purchase a token for $20 USD. But what will the selling price be?
MMO-Champion.com released more raiding stats direct from the WoW Armory to examine completion rates of raids in Warlords. How does this compare with raiding in Siege of Orgrimmar and other past raids? Are we seeing a growing trend in the end game?
Plus, we have a ton of reaction from our last show, your questions and more to get to this week!
Mon, 23 March 2015
This week’s show leads to some very fun and controversial conversations… be prepared!
Brian Holinka, Senior PvP Designer, took to Twitter this week asking: "Do you play WoW and Heroes of the Storm but you don't PvP in WoW? I'd love to hear why.” the CtR crew responds with an in-depth conversation trying to figure out what improvements WoW would have to make to capture the MOBA crowd and make PvP less of a daunting experience for players new to this aspect of WoW.
Also, thanks to a listener question we try to tackle the topic of the new difficulty in raiding (that deals more with mechanics than purely player power). Does this switch in player responsibility mean that teams need to better manage their expectations, and how should raid leaders proceed through this new era of raiding?
The Blackrock Foundry item increases arrived this week as promised…or did they? What kind of an increase can you expect from the change?
Plus, we congratulate Olivia Grace for her new position with Blizzard, catch up with Dairies about PAX East and South by Southwest, and have a lot of laughs along the way!
Mon, 16 March 2015
The CtR crew welcomes special guest Affinity from Midwinter (World 3rd, US 1st in Blackrock Foundry) to the show!
The big news this week was all about Blizzcon, as Blizzard announced that the behemoth event will be held November 6th and 7th in Anaheim, California. With that announcement, players from around the world have already secured their stays, selling out surrounding hotels in hours! Where will you be staying that weekend?
With Affinity on the show, we couldn’t help but talk all about Mythic raiding. We take a look at which teams have crossed the finish line, and which teams have thrown in the towel — including his former team, Blood Legion. Also, Affinity discusses his transition into Midwinter and what it was like raiding with his new team.
Blizzard is making some small but important changes to the item levels of loot in BRF, increasing all raid drops by 5 ilevels retroactively. The guys discuss the change and what it may mean moving forward.
Plus, the WoW Token, Wing 3 of LFR opens, Blizzard Stream Awards, your questions, and much more — especially if you play resto druid!
Mon, 2 March 2015
This week, the CtR crew dig in to patch 6.1 and cover Blizzard’s recent Q&A on Twitch!
Patch 6.1 dropped on Tuesday, and now we ask whether or not everything has lived up to the hype. Have items like the SELFIE camera and garrison jukebox been good things overall, or are these just small quality of life improvements?
Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas and Community Manager Josh Allen (a.k.a. Lore) took to Twitch this week to talk about dungeons and raids in World of Warcraft. A lot of ground was covered, from how many raid tiers we can expect this expansion to personal loot changes, a “Timewalking” feature and more. The crew will run through some of the most notable A’s to your Q’s and have a bunch of fun along the way.
Plus a neutral panda is about to hit level 100, more news from the race to world first, and more!
Mon, 23 February 2015
The race to world first in Blackjack Foundry is over, and Method has won! The CtR crew gives you all of the details inside, including overall standings, background on how teams prepare for the race and more.
There’s a rumble in the community, one that states that there’s a lack of content in Warlords of Draenor. The guys begin the conversation with some of the pitfalls and successes of Warlords, but are the problems really much different than previous expansions? Are there any possible solutions to this perception issue?
Plus, more on patch 6.1, Ion Hazzikostas interview from Mamytwink, your questions and much more!
Mon, 16 February 2015
Mythic Blackrock Foundry kicks off this week, as does the race to world first! While there are returning favorites like Method, Paragon, and Midwinter, some teams have changed their rosters and upped their game to claim their spots amongst raiding royalty. The CtR crew lets you in on who are the surprises, and whether or not this raid tier will be finished by the end of this week’s lockout.
The CtR War Room opens its doors for the first time this expansion to take a closer look at Blackrock Foundry, but of course with this crew it’s gonna get weird! Get ready to usher out the young ones as Convert to Raid presents another reading of 50 Shades of Raid.
Hans’gar and Franzok are doing more than just trying to pound raid teams into the ground. They’re actually making players sick! Players are reporting headaches, confusion, vertigo and nausea from a combination of the moving conveyor belts and player movement. The guys will give you their take inside this show.
Plus, patch 6.1 and daily dungeon quests, WoD soundtrack nominated for another award, your questions and a lot more!
Mon, 9 February 2015
This week, raid teams raced to Gorgrond as the Blackrock Foundry raid instance kicked off in normal and heroic modes. Initial impressions are good from player reports, and the encounters have some good variety to keep all kinds of different players challenged. Especially the trash!
Ion Hazzikostas, Lead Game Designer on World of Warcraft, wrote a post that clarified the intentions behind the encounter difficulties and what players should expect as they clear bosses. The guys go over the details, give you their opinions, and provide some key information that could be important for your team.
With the opening of the Blackrock Foundry, now raiders can finally get some Tier 17 gear in this expansion. But are the bonuses overpowered, or are they just “nice”? Plus, find out the worst part of the new gear (according to Pat Krane).
Plus, WoW Insider turns into Blizzard Watch, mounting up at level 1, your questions and a whole lot more!
Mon, 26 January 2015
This week, CtR welcomes Treckie back to talk about everything raiding and WoW!
Blizzard posted a preview of all 10 bosses in the upcoming Blackrock Foundry raid (starting Feb. 3), and the guys talk about some of the encounters and what you can expect in this first tier of raiding. Treckie gives us his experience with some of the encounters and gives his tips on what your team may want to try first!
There’s even more information coming out about Patch 6.1 now on the test realms (PTR). Along with an heirloom tab and heirloom upgrades for your alts, the BIG feature is that you’ll be able to summon a raid or world boss to your garrison! The guys give all the details and their views inside.
Plus, Treckie talks tank balance, taking a S.E.L.F.I.E. in game gets better, professions see some changes in 6.1, and the guys will even give some starting tips for how raid leaders can look at combat logs. All in this very fun episode of Convert to Raid!
Mon, 19 January 2015
This week, the CtR crew found out that Blackrock Foundry (the next raid instance) will be coming February 3, sooner than many players anticipated! While some are undoubtedly relieved to be moving on, is there concern that the beginning of this expansion is moving just as quickly as Mists of Pandaria? Or was Highmaul really supposed to be more of an introductory raid that would lead into the “real raiding” of Blackrock?
There’s more information data mined from Patch 6.1 from the test servers, including character model updates, better colorblind options, and UI changes. But why are the Blizzard developers changing the male Night Elf run?
Also: Convert to Raid (the guild) celebrates their second anniversary, “Veteran Accounts” explained, how to take your team to the mythic level and what you can expect along the way, a technical look at resto druids, your questions and so much more!
Mon, 12 January 2015
The guys are back with a brand new show in the brand new year!
Over the break, the last boss of the Highmaul raid was released in the Looking for Raid difficulty. Did LFR live up to the promise of Blizzcon 2013 as being “tourist mode,” or were there unexpected results? The CtR crew weighs in, and Dairies response may surprise you!
Patch 6.1 hits the test realms, and the data mining has already gone deep! The guys will give you some of the big highlights, which include a Legendary garrison follower, a couple of new toys, a new mount, and more.
Blackrock Foundry is also set to release around the time 6.1 should be hitting live servers in late February. How does the timing compare to that of Mists of Pandaria, and what do we know about this new schedule for raid releases?
The 10th Anniversary events wrap up this week, but how have they been received? MMO-Champion.com released some statistics over the break, and the players will give you the low down. Will we see more content like this in the future, and was there a point that Blizzard was trying to prove during these events?
Plus, Ghostcrawler tweets about WoW, Blizzard hotfixes may save the game, a lonely panda hits level 95, and a whole lot more in this week’s return of Convert to Raid!
Mon, 22 December 2014
The CtR crew is back for one last hilarious, informative show before 2015!
The race to world first may be over, but not all of the top 20 have crossed the finish line. The guys check in on the standings, and tell you how Blizzard may have screwed it all up for the competition in Highmaul.
Looking for Raid Wing 2 opened this week, named Arcane Sanctum, and features Tectus, Twin Ogron and Ko’ragh. LFR heroes are finding out that mechanics matter, and players are dying! So is this still “tourist mode,” or are we seeing a step up in difficulty?
Blizzard announced several plans for patch 6.1 and beyond, like the new Blood Elf models, a Legendary follower for your garrison, a tab for heirloom items similar to pets and mounts, and being able to tweet from in-game.
But there were some surprises in that announcement, like Blizzard announcing that they will be overhauling the UI so that people will be able to follow the action in War Games skirmishes! Soon™, tournament organizers may be able to have a true spectator mode, which could mean future improvements for PvE as well!
Also, Blizzard announced that they are developing a way for players to purchase tradable game-time token with real dollars to see for gold. What does this mean for the economy of WoW, and does that mean we may be heading to a “pay to win” model?
Happy Winter Veil, and a Happy New Year from Convert to Raid. We’ll see you next year!
Mon, 15 December 2014
This week, Derevka joins Pat Krane and Koltrane to talk about all things World of Warcraft!
Mythic Highmaul released on Tuesday, and that means we got to see our favorite bleeding-edge teams take on the most difficult versions of the new raid encounters. And this year’s competition has been exciting, with a real worldwide race to world first. The guys have the play by play and tell you why this is so interesting.
Wing 1 of Looking for Raid difficulty also released this week, and the crew has some insight as to how a few different new features to Warlords really make LFR (and raiding in general) probably the best it’s ever been.
As World of Warcraft Lead Class Designer Kris Zierhut said in last week’s interview, some classes and specs got some adjustment this week before the mythic race. What are the initial findings? Do classes feel balanced enough, or is there another round of changes in the works?
Plus, a highlight of some key hotfixes, Death Knights creation requirements to go away, your questions and so much more. This episode is high energy fun that all raiders should enjoy!
Mon, 8 December 2014
The CtR crew talks WoW with Blizzard’s Lead Game Developer Ion (Watcher) Hazzikostas, and Lead Class Designer Kris Zierhut. Inside, the guys talk garrisons, classes, flying in Draenor, stats, and of course… RAIDING!
LFR and mythic raiding starts this week, and according to Hazzikostas, the team feels confident with the tuning of all the different difficulty levels. Both developers go further into tuning and what you can expect at different gear levels for your play style.
Expect another round of class balancing before mythic raiding kicks off on Tuesday, as there are some classes and specs that aren’t performing as well as hoped. The guys get into some of the finer details, especially with those classes of some of our vocal community members. They also talk tanks and healers, secondary stats and more.
And the CtR guys learn some fun extra things too! After the Molten Core 40 man LFR, will there be another classic raid released in this format? Probably not. There is a chance that Gnomes could be seeing some new race/class combinations in the future, however. And they even talk toys, like Aviana’s Feather!
There’s tons of information inside. Enjoy!
Mon, 1 December 2014
It’s been well over a year since our last new raid in WoW, and the CtR crew cannot wait until the Highmaul raid opens on Tuesday (Dec. 2)! So the guys have a special introduction to all of the new bosses and what you might be able to expect when you meet them for the first time.
Patch 6.0.3 landed this week, and there were a number of fixes and changes in Blizzard’s first attempt for better class balance this expansion. The gang will go over some of the bigger spell changes and talk about how it might affect your play.
Also, more tips and tricks for your Garrisons, early WoD stats from MMO-Champion, the new Blood Elf character models, and more on another fun-filled episode!
Mon, 24 November 2014
The CtR crew is back for another look at the latest news for raiders in World of Warcraft!
Over the last week, the issues of the initial Warlords of Draenor launch have been addressed by Blizzard. Not only did J Allen Brack (Executive Producer and Vice President of Blizzard Entertainment) issue an apology, he topped it with five free days for the players that lived through it. Not only that, but in a press release Blizzard announced that World of Warcraft is back over 10 million subscribers — which may have been one of the big reasons behind the issues in the first place.
This week WoW celebrates its 10th Anniversary, and the players get a refresher of that Classic WoW taste. There’s a new PvP zone for a limited time as players can relive their days of glory in Hillsbrad with Southshore vs. Tarren Mill, and something special for raiders.
Molten Core has been updated for level 100 players as a 40 man in Raid Finder difficulty. There are no new mechanics, but if you never raided this at level it could prove quite the challenge — especially considering it’s in LFR. While the developers are now doing some nerfs to this content, the guys will give you tips and tricks for the uninitiated. This quick rundown just could save your life (and countless others), so listen up!
Mon, 17 November 2014
Warlords of Draenor released this week and players flooded through the dark portal into the new expansion. And, yes, there have been problems, including really long queues, DDOS attacks, downed servers and maintenance. But let’s talk about the content!
The CtR crew will take you through their leveling experiences, giving you their take on quests, zones, bonus objectives, and surprises. Could this be the best expansion for leveling of all time? Plus, they talk about how players can gear up quickly after dinging level 100, which garrisons and outposts are most beneficial, and how raiders can more easily get ready for the release of the Highmaul raid.
Plus, the guys will recap Blizzcon — from the meet ups with friends to the lack of WoW news, Overwatch to the parties — reliving the fun of Anaheim. Get ready to have a blast on this week’s show!

Mon, 20 October 2014
This week, Treckie from the top raiding guild in the world, Method, joins Dairies and Pat Krane to talk about all of the new changes to Azeroth with the arrival of patch 6.0.2!
Inside, the guys talk about some of the more interesting changes this week, including class balance (and Blizzard hotfixes), bugs in game, the leveling experience, and more. Siege of Orgrimmar has seen a huge nerf for Mythic difficulties, with record boss kills… so maybe now is the time for your team to hit this new difficulty!
The add-on ElvUI was in the spotlight this week, as some code was discovered that could allow the developer to really change some players’ game. The gang will tell you what happened and what you should do to make sure it’s not affecting you.
Plus, we talk to Treckie about Blizzcon, and how Method plans to defeat Midwinter in the World of Warcraft Raiding Panel! He reveals all of his secrets (not really) on how he plans to take them down in this exhibition/competition.
Also, Blasted Lands and UBRS, soloing legacy raids, where to get your class guides, your questions, and T-Shirts... but only for a limited time!
Mon, 13 October 2014
This week, Pat Krane, Koltrane and Dairies welcome lead game designer Ion Hazzikostas and senior game designer Brian Holinka to the show! Inside, they’ll discuss the upcoming changes for support classes, Ashran and PvP, raid encounters, class balance, and more.
This week Blizzard announced the raiding panel for Blizzcon. Ion Hazzikostas gives us the inside scoop on which teams will be playing in this exhibition and what encounters they’ll be facing.
Also, the guys chat about garrisons and the end game, professions, crowd control changes and diminishing returns, the legendary ring for Warlords, and a ton of listener questions. It’s all inside this very full episode of Convert to Raid!
Mon, 6 October 2014
With about a month until Blizzcon and the next expansion for World of Warcraft, the CtR crew gets you ready for the 6.0 pre patch and beyond!
Blizzard announced the close of many different seasons in the next couple of weeks — Arena and Rated Battleground Season 15, Brawler’s Guild and Challenge Modes Season One — which means a lot of new beginnings are right around the corner. The Warlords of Draenor patch 6.0.2 is also downloading in the background, so clear some room out of your PC, as you’ll need about 10GB or more for all the new stuff!
The crew also talks through the dungeons you’ll face in the next expansion. Will 4 dungeons be enough, or will garrisons and the rest of the new questing process take the pressure off of instances for leveling?
Also, Titan is cancelled by Blizz, the Road to Blizzcon, Brawler’s Guild Season Two, your questions and more in this very fun show!
Mon, 22 September 2014
This week, the guys at Convert to Raid learned that players will be losing out on some key items in patch 6.0.2 (coming soon™). For example, with the pre-patch, players will no longer be able to start the legendary cloak quest. And come the expansion in November, the cloak quest will be taken out completely. What does this mean for raiders, especially those switching their mains for Warlords of Draenor?
Also, Justice Point Heirloom vendors will be taken out of the game for a bit as the brains at Blizzard come up with a new system (since Justice and Valor will be taken out as well). If you don’t have them all by now, it’s time to get them while the getting is good!
And Ion “Watcher” Hazzikostas took to the forums to explain the mentality behind all of the changes to healing in Warlords, giving players a little more insight to how things should work in the near future. However, the balancing act isn’t quite there yet, so get ready when the pre-expansion patch drops in the upcoming weeks!
Also, character names reclaimed, a look behind the tech curtain, legacy raid changes on the PTR, Collector’s Edition blues, your questions and so much more!
Mon, 15 September 2014
This week, pre-expansion patch 6.0.2 lands on the PTR! The guys take a look at all the PTR has to offer versus the beta. Not only will there be Mythic raiding of Siege of Orgrimmar, but there are a number of quality of life improvements, class changes, and more.
The bonus roll will still be a thing in Warlords of Draenor, and our friends over at Icy Veins put together a guide on how to get them. Four ways to get your three weekly rolls are through quests from Ashran (don’t worry, only one involves PvP), and you can also get them through your garrisons. Find out how in this episode.
As discussed last week, garrisons will also be able to give raiders more loot! We have clarifications from developers Tom Chilton and Ion Hazzikostas on what type of loot to expect, and how often we can expect them.
Also, we’ve got more info on the 10 year anniversary celebration of WoW, class changes on the beta (including tanks and DKs), your questions and so much more. Enjoy!
Mon, 8 September 2014
This week, Derevka joins Pat Krane and Koltrane for a very fun show with news direct from the Warlords of Draenor beta!
Tanks have been very strong in the beta so far, and according to Chadd “Celestalon” Nervigg’s recent post, too strong. To avoid “power creep,” tanks will be getting many of their abilities reduced in effectiveness, essentially making them more squishy. Of course this will be done for all tanks, and creature damage will be reduced to offset the issues. What does this mean for tanking and healing for raiders, and will it change game play overall?
Game Developers Cory Stockton and Dave Kosak joined Community Manager Josh “Lore” Allen for a live Q&A session on Twitch this week. While many of the answers revolved around leveling up with your garrisons, there were a number of things of interest to raiders.
For example, there are some interesting ways to get loot in WoD. One way is through garrison missions, where you might be able to get new gear and even upgrade the gear you already have. The other way to get the best gear in the game is through the Black Market Auction House. But what does this mean for raiders of all levels? How will those raiders on the cutting edge of progression respond? And is it the best solution to drop random raid loot outside of raid instances?
Also covered: the PAX wrapup, Proving Grounds silver now needed for random 5-man heroics on the beta, mythic raid testing, gear upgrades in 6.0, the BlizzCon virtual ticket, and more!
Mon, 25 August 2014
This week, the beta continues to get a workout, and the CtR crew is tracking the action for you!
LFR for Warlords got a first look on the test servers, and it was… LFR. Not quite what the developers promised at Blizzcon with “Tourist Mode," but they also mentioned that in this first pass it was probably overtuned. If the LFR doesn’t change significantly, however, how will that translate into how these different difficulties are used by WoW players?
Mythic raiding also got a workout on beta, with 6 bosses being tested this week. With the speed that developers seem to be going, the November release date looks solid. But what is the process, and will we see these bosses being tested again?
Also, more interviews have been released from Tom Chilton at Gamescom, and one of the big bombs he dropped was that Warlords may only see two raid tiers instead of the usual three, depending on the next expansion. Does that seem too fast, or are you okay with a “shorter” expansion?
Also, Play with the Blues, Choppers hit Azeroth (in the beta), your questions and more in another fun filled episode!
Mon, 18 August 2014
The CtR crew is back, and this week we debate the latest big news from Blizzard! At a “mini-Blizzcon" event in Los Angeles, Mike Morheim, Ion Hazzikostas, Brian Holinka and Chris Metzen took the stage in a huge lifestream event to announce the upcoming release of Warlords of Draenor. Not only did they show the new cinematic, but also gave more details on what’s to come for the next expansion, along with a release date of November 13, 2014!
There is a lot of varying opinion on all of the information from the event, even within the CtR crew!
Tom Chilton gave several interviews at GamesCom to talk about Warlords after the announcement in Germany, giving more specifics (and spoilers) that have sparked even more discussion and controversy within the WoW community.
The guys go toe to toe on everything this week, including on the cinematic, the 6.0 pre-expansion patch, the final boss of WoD, and even the 10th anniversary celebration announcement and more! It’s another fun-filled show on Convert to Raid!
Mon, 4 August 2014
This week, Blizzard announced something that surprised no one: the Alliance bike from Azeroth Choppers will be available in game as well as the one from the Horde! But the Alliance bike will be available for purchase from a vendor, and no specific price tag was mentioned.
While at Blizzcon, developers said that not all races would be reworked by the time Warlords was released, but they will manage to rework every race except for Blood Elves. With all of the artwork that is new and improved for WoD, can anyone blame them? (If you read the forums, the answer is yes.)
Speaking of forums, one post got a lot of attention this week on the World of Warcraft forums that contained a lot of bad information. The CtR crew gives its own unique take on this to help set the record straight with a little reenactment with a special guest!
The gang will also give you the synopsis of the dungeons available right now on the Warlords of Draenor beta as well as a brief look at some of the raid testing that’s been going on this week along with all of your questions!
Mon, 28 July 2014
This week marked the first public raid testing in the beta, and the CtR crew was there… kind of. When Blizz tried testing Gruul and The Butcher, the servers were having some stability issues. Many raid testers were outraged that something that is being tested as a beta had failed. Down servers added to the fact that the first two bosses released for testing have been a part of Blizzard games before sent the flames to the forums and Twitter.
On Friday, Blizzard was set to have more raid testing, but this came to a halt after a real life fire in Irvine shut down the power substation. While power was restored that morning, the developers postponed the test.
The patch notes for Warlords of Draenor revealed that Hunters will be getting Aspect of the Fox again, this time retooled into a 6 second raid wide cooldown! Feral druids are getting a little bit a love from the devs with a level 100 talent that can transform your cat into Saberon form. Thunder Cats are go!!!!
Also, we’ll have the latest news about Ashran, transmogrification for your weapon enchants, the new female Tauren model along with all your questions and so much more!
Mon, 14 July 2014
This week the CtR crew returns for another fun filled show!
The Heart of the Valorous goes live again, but why did Blizzard only make it available over a weekend and not during the rest of the week? And will valor caps increase any time soon so that we can upgrade more than one piece of armor per week?
Warlords beta patch notes have been released! The crew gives you some of the highlights and tries to calm you down as the game continues to be developed. The guys also discuss the feedback process for all of these changes and how that works with the communication from Blizzard to its players.
Want to know more about how your Garrison will work in Warlords? Wowhead.com recently posted all of their datamined information about garrisons, including an in depth look at the buildings that you’ll be able to choose from. How will these buildings help your gameplay? Are there any overpowered perks from these buildings? Find out inside!
Also, Rob Pardo, Chief Creative Director for Blizzard Entertainment, is leaving the company after 17 years. Where he’ll be moving to and why he is leaving are still unanswered. But while Pardo leaves the building, Mike Morhaime answered an open letter about (the lack of diversity) in Blizzard games. Is there a tie between the two?
Plus, leading the raid for mythic teams in Warlords, pre-release reviews, beta blues and Pat makes some BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS!
Mon, 30 June 2014
This week, Blizzard turned the Warlords of Draenor alpha into the Warlords of Draenor betal, allowing more people access to test server stability. And the CtR crew was there to check it all out. Aside from lots of crashes and bugs, there were a bunch of changes to explore!
Tanaan Jungle, the entry point in the next expansion, appeared in the latest build. Khadgar, Thrall and others will test your meddle, unless of course you’re decked out in heroic gear from Siege of Orgrimmar. The guys will give you a glimpse into the action, and tell you what awards await.
Some players may be feeling left out in the cold in the beta process, however. The crew takes a look at some of the issues with the beta invite process, and takes you through the timeline as it appeared on Twitter.
Another sticking point for some players this week — faction capitals. Blizzard announced at Blizzcon 2013 that the faction capitals would be at Karabor and Bloodspire. But during the development process, and with the greater development of garrisons, the devs have changed their collective mind. While these cities will still be explorable, auction houses, portals, and all normal faction capital functions will be on the island of Ashran, just outside of the PvP zone. The guys give you the lowdown and their opinions on why Blizz made the change.
Plus, the new male human model arrives, Shadowmoon Burial Grounds preview, and a bunch of your questions. It’s another jam packed show, so hang on for another fun ride through Warcraft-land!
Mon, 23 June 2014
The CtR crew is back for another fun show! This week, they look at some weird achievements, new loot for Warlords of Draenor, and more!
The Gaze of the Black Prince is a new buff unleashed by Blizzard to help those on their quest for the legendary cloak. it essentially improves your chance for all of the collection quests in your adventures. But it only lasts for two weeks, ending June 30th, and is that enough time for those just starting down the path? And while Blizzard’s new buff certainly can help players, is this really a benefit to the community, or would it be best to make The Gaze last until 6.0?
Shadowmoon Valley content was released in the WoD alpha, and while it looks really great, that doesn’t mean it’s very stable. Just as the crew went to hop online, there were critical errors taking down the servers for the weekend. But that doesn’t mean we can’t theorycraft!
Monks and Warriors received some fine tuning with the latest alpha patch as well, including more ability pruning and some serious playstyle changes. While the jury is still out on what this means for both of those classes, Chadd “Celestalon” Nervig from Blizzard says that there will be even more changes coming, especially to Arms Warriors.
Plus, game responsiveness improvements are coming with WoD, druids may be bugging out about their new gear, the crew takes your questions and more!
Mon, 16 June 2014
This week, the CtR crew takes a look at a bunch of changes on the Warlords alpha that have some players up in arms!
Blizzard has removed active mana regeneration from the latest patch (6.0.1 Alpha), and healers are being forced into a more measured style of play. While the community reacts, the question remains on whether or not Blizzard thinks it’s sustainable for raiding in the future.
Several classes were hit by ability pruning this week as Blizzard figures out exactly what each spec needs to survive in Warlords. Some of the changes seem kind of extreme or random, and the gang gives you the details and their reactions to them. Look out druids and shaman!
Also, Blizzard is giving each spec a 5% secondary stat boost. This will not only to give players a little bit of protection from bad drops, but also to help players understand which secondary stats are best for them. But the crew is confused as to why it’s called an “attunement."
Also, the guys take a look at the latest mount to hit the Blizzard store, our latest experiences with heroic Thok, the changes to the Timeless Isle, and your questions in another very fun show!
Mon, 9 June 2014
The gang is all back this week, and ready to charge into the fray of everything World of Warcraft!
The friends and family alpha was released for Warlords of Draenor, and yes, the guys at CtR has been playing it. They cover all of their reactions to their in game experiences to give you some of the information you’ve been longing for! Inside this episode they cover questing, garrisons, characters, the new models, the available dungeon, the stat squish, spell changes, and many other aspects of the latest release. Also, the crew will take a look at why Blizzard released the alpha the way it has, which has left some long time players feeling left out in the cold.
A recent developer watercooler article gave an inside look at the stat changes for Warlords. Koltrane, Dairies and Pat Krane take a look at some of the changes Blizzard has made since Blizzcon and why some changes needed to happen.
Also, Azeroth Choppers comes to a conclusion, but was it as fulfilling of a season as the crew had hoped for? Plus, find out the latest information for the CtR Guild and a couple of real life meetups, including our party at Blizzcon 2014! Even through all of the video issues, this is still a great round of conversations… enjoy!
Mon, 2 June 2014
Pat Krane and Koltrane are back, bringing in Treckie from Method (#1 ranked guild in the world) for another great show!
Blizzard released their first blog post on garrisons, so the CtR crew examines some of the different features and systems of this new and expansive content for Warlords of Draenor. They discuss how player choices will effect how each character levels up to give them a somewhat unique experience, what you can expect from garrisons as you move about Draenor, and how followers can help you maximize your efforts.
The Heart of the Valorous buff went out this last week, but it seems to have landed with a thud… at least with our panel. What do more upgrades and faster valor gains mean, and why did Blizzard feel the need to do it?
Also, actor Ben Foster speaks about his character in the Warcraft movie, Moonkin get a huge change in the Warlords alpha, old school raiding can help change things up for your raid team, and much more!
Mon, 19 May 2014
This week, Dairies and Pat Krane are joined by Zoopercat from Ask Mr. Robot to talk about the latest news in World of Warcraft!
Patch 5.4.8 is on the PTR, and it's all about upgrades! Now you can upgrade your armor a total of 4 times. Is this a much needed improvement for players struggling, or is it a way to stretch Siege of Orgrimmar while waiting for Warlords of Draenor?
It was revealed this week from Lead Encounter Designer Ion Hazzikostas that the gearing path for Warlords will be similar to how it is now, with dungeon loot item levels beneath that of all difficulties of raid loot. But does that mean LFR is a concern for those raiders that usually tackle tougher content?
And finally, the crew talks to Zoopercat directly about the newest addition to Ask Mr. Robot -- combat logs (currently in alpha). She gives some great insight to their approach for logs, some refreshing problems they're finding solutions for, and other items that may just blow your mind!
Get ready for a great show! (Plus, some tech issues. Thanks, internet.)
Mon, 12 May 2014
Olivia Grace and Derevka both join Pat Krane this week for incredible discussions on the biggest news in WoW this week!
Blizzcon sold out in minutes, and the new Eventbrite system seemed to have mixed reviews from the thousands that logged in this week to buy. The crew talks about their ticket experiences with Eventbrite and try to figure out what will be at Blizzcon for World of Warcraft fans.
This week also saw the Q1 investor call from Activision Blizzard, where it was revealed that World of Warcraft has only lost 200,000 subscribers. Blizzard did employ some tricks like the Warlords pre-release and the boost to 90 program, but how long will this last without new content?
And in Raiding News, more information was released on the changes to raiding in 6.0, plus Ion Hazzikostas had another interview. The gang takes a look at all of the upcoming changes to give you the latest view on garrisons, raid lockouts, gearing, and much more on this very engaging show!
Mon, 5 May 2014
This week, the CtR crew takes a look all the news that was raiding in Warlords of Draenor! Ion Hazzikostas, Warcraft’s Lead Encounter Designer, had a few posts discussing the raiding mindset over the history of the game as well as looking into the future of Warlords. On top of that, he also sat down with Olivia Grace for an hour long talk all about the upcoming raiding changes.
Mon, 28 April 2014
Koltrane, Pat Krane and Dairies are back in action after a week off, catching you up on all things WoW!
Announced earlier this week, Blizzcon 2014 will be taking over Anaheim this November 7th and 8th, and the guys give you the lowdown on nearby hotels, ticket prices, and more. There are new prices and a new system for buying tickets (now through Eventbrite), so listen up if you’re thinking of going!
The latest WoW Source video hit the WoW website this week as well. Discussing mostly PvP, there were a few key items concerning raiders, like a potentially great new system for raid testing going into Warlords.
Plus, active mana regen is back on the menu for healers, find out why Pat Krane is nervous about garrisons, Dairies explains how to get all of the achievements in WoW, and Koltrane gets hassled by gnomes. Plus, your questions and a whole lot more in another amazing show!
Mon, 14 April 2014
There are lots of little things happening with Blizzard right now, and it gives the gang some time to recuperate from their big interview last week with Celestalon and Zarhym. So this week Koltrane and Pat Krane welcome Treckie from the #1 guild in the world, Method, and together they take a look deeper into the Warlords of Draenor alpha patch notes. A new WoW Source video with Morgan Webb is coming soon, this time talking about PvP and class changes direct from the game designers. But could there be a leak at Blizzard HQ? The guys intercept some fantastical information with the upcoming changes!
If you could blacklist a couple of 5 man dungeons, would you? Lead Encounter Designer Ion Hazzikostas pondered this on Twitter, which turned into an online poll! But could dungeon blacklisting be bad for the World of Warcraft?
Some new tools are being developed by names we already trust! Ask Mr. Robot will be revealing their brand of combat logs soon, and Wowhead.com just unveiled their class guides for new and boosted 90s. What do they bring to the game, and who are they trying to connect with?
All of that, plus a discussion on professions in WoD, your questions, and more on another intriguing show!
Mon, 24 March 2014
This week, Koltrane and Pat Krane welcome Derevka for a very fun and informative show on all the latest in World of Warcraft!
Siege of Orgrimmar has been out for over six months, and this is the longest we’ve ever had to wait for new content in the history of WoW. Was this a communication breakdown between the developers and the rest of the WoW community, did something go wrong, or is this “working as intended” according to the development plan?
Blizzard has made the wait a little easier, however. This week, Blizzard announced that normal and heroic raiding were both going cross realm. Is this move so that raid teams can recruit for Mythic raiding in Warlords, or did the devs do this to try and extend the life of Siege of Orgrimmar?
The crew takes a look at the pieces and give you their insights on these issues and a lot more in another jam packed show!
Mon, 17 March 2014
This week, Blizzard released the Warlords of Draenor pre-purchase along with the boosts to level 90, but have they caused more issues for raiders in the World of Warcraft? The Convert to Raid crew takes a look into how the new 90s have made their impact on LFR and Flex, along with how much we can expect to pay for the next expansion and when we can expect it.
Could flight not come to Draenor in the next expansion? Blizzard developer Alex Afrasiabi discussed it in a recent interview, and the CtR gang finds some surprising results from their chat room.
Plus, the guys tackle questions on raid and guild leadership issues, news from other Blizzard games, and a bunch more in this week’s show!
Mon, 10 March 2014
This week CtR tackles the latest Dev Watercooler released just a couple of days prior, this one talking about health pools and healing for Warlords of Draenor. The guys break it down and try to keep it all in context for what it could mean for the next expansion.
Plus, a new video was published on YouTube (on the Warcraft account) about the level 90 boost being available, yet it hasn’t made it’s way to the World of Warcraft site. What does this mean, and when will it be available in game?
And the guys answer a ton of viewer questions, including one about how to examine combat logs during raid. The crew gives you the 411 on some of the key information to look at as well as some great addons to try out.
Mon, 3 March 2014
This week began the “info dump” from Blizzard, and the guys at Convert to Raid have you covered with tons of information and some really bad jokes.
The latest blog article from Blizzard discusses the process behind a lot of the upcoming changes for Warlords of Draenor, including the stat squish, racial bonus changes, ability pruning, crowd control changes, and more. While the article itself is more general, a couple of developers took to Twitter to give much more detailed information, and the crew helps sort it all out.
What do these changes mean for raiders in World of Warcraft? How will your game be impacted as we head into the next expansion? These changes show a marked difference in the mindset of Blizz, but are they dumbing down WoW or making gameplay choices more interesting?
Plus, we answer several viewer questions, talk about our raid team’s expansion, the WoW Insider cutbacks and more!

This week’s Convert to Raid revealed some interesting possibilities for the future of the World of Warcraft!
Patch 5.4.7 dropped, and a few key problems forced Blizzard to have more realm maintenance later in the week. Not only were addons like OQueue broken, but mounts from the Blizzard store went missing as well. The hubbub had people on the forums threatening to unsubscribe (and more), but now players may have more mounts than they know what to do with.
Directly after the patch landed on Azeroth, the Blizzard in game store contained a character boost to level 90 for a whopping $60 US. The guys will give you their take on the price and whether or not they plan making a purchase or two, especially if their raid team needed the help.
Blizzard developers held international press events over this last week, and one of the revelations dropped was that a silver medal in Proving Grounds may be a prerequisite for Heroic Dungeons in the next expansion. The more casual players shouldn’t be affected by this change too much, as heroics should not be a necessary progression path to get to LFR. But this does bring up a few key questions:
Plus, the gang talks about the new character model updates, Twitch plays WoW, PvP changes and answers a bunch of your emails on another jam packed show!
Mon, 17 February 2014
The Convert to Raid crew are back in action to give you the hottest news for raiders in World of Warcraft!
This week, Lead Encounter Designer Ion Hazzikostas dropped a ton of news, including some minor nerfs to the 10 man heroic version of the Garrosh encounter. While this has been an issue for awhile, now is the time to make some adjustments to ensure that the difficulty between 10 and 25 is better aligned.
The Challenge Mode dungeon “season” is ending soon, according to Blizzard. But did anyone ever tell the general public that this was a “season” in the first place? Why did Blizzard pull the plug? How have players been reacting to the news, and how can Blizzard improve on this scaled 5 man content in Warlords?
And finally, reported just before this show recorded, patch 5.4.7 should be landing this week in the World of Warcraft! This new patch brings the start of the next PvP season, several class changes and preparation for the Level 90 Boosts and Pre-Order for Warlords of Draenor. Not everything may be available right away, but we expect to hear more news about the Pre-Order soon™.
Also, The Scroll of Resurrection Retires, garrison art is revealed by Blizzard, casters may have fewer instants in WoD, and more!
Mon, 10 February 2014
This week, they CtR crew looks into their crystal ball to see the future of World of Warcraft!
PvP Season 14 is ending soon, but why would raiders care? According to Blizzard, we could be seeing the end of this season in the next couple of weeks, with patch 5.4.7 soon to follow. Included in the patch should be pre-purchase of Warlords of Draenor, the free boost to 90 and much more. And if the next PvP season is around 20 weeks long, when will we be seeing the next expansion? And when should we be finding out more about the release of the beta? The guys will give you their predictions!
WoW subscription numbers are… up? According to Blizzards quarterly earnings call, Q4 saw an increase of 200,000 subscribed members. This is definitely a surprise to many in the community. Can it all be traced back to Blizzcon, or is there something else in the works? And will Blizzard be able to retain these numbers?
In the prepatch to Warlords, expect a raiding shakeup! Ion Hazzikostas, Lead Encounter Designer for Blizzard said via Twitter that patch 6.0 would introduce all of the raid group changes into Siege of Orgrimmar. So Flex becomes Normal, Normal becomes Heroic, and Heroic becomes Mythic. It’s downright confusing for the guys to keep everything straight, but they’ll try to get everything and everyone sorted out as we approach the big switch.
Also, how can you get raiding experience if no one will let you in to your group? The guys take a look at a viewer question on how to take their first steps as a raider. Also, a wrap up of the Blizzard Stream Awards, more questions from you, and lots of laughs inside this week’s show!
Mon, 3 February 2014
This week, Pat Krane and Dairies welcome special guest Sloot from top ranked guild Midwinter, and they discuss difficulty levels for all kinds of encounters for Warlords of Draenor!
Lead Encounter Designer Ion “Watcher" Hazzikostas talked with several community members from the EU, touching on the resurrection of heroic 5 man content and what kind of difficulty we might expect for the upcoming expansion.
Along with that, Watcher mentioned that there may be alternate ways to gear up to similar ilevels to Looking For Raid, possibly through challenge modes. With all of the new opportunities Blizzard is giving players for loot in WoD, does that spell the demise of LFR or will it make playing the game more flexible and fun for everyone?
Mythic mechanics are getting freshened up too, according to Hazzikostas. The crew discusses how Blizzard could accomplish it, giving examples of what makes a good (and bad) raid encounter.
And finally, Sloot and the guys take an in depth look into what raid leaders should consider before taking their normal team into Mythic content in Warlords. If you’re thinking about taking your team to the next level, you won’t want to miss this discussion!
Mon, 27 January 2014
This week, Blizzard banned a TON of accounts (unofficial numbers in the hundreds of thousands) for botting programs that enhance gameplay, and some WoW players were caught in the crossfire. The CtR crew explains how these third party programs work, and what other programs may have been suspect. But was Blizzard biting the hand that feeds them, or is their tolerance for cheaters really that low?
Ion Hazzikostas announced that Blizzard is pretty happy with the bonus roll system for loot that was developed in Mists of Pandaria, but are you? Are there improvements to be made, or do the limitations feel appropriate?
The human female artwork revamp was released this week, and Koltrane explains why Blizzard should think about clothing their models, and why his coworkers are avoiding him at the water cooler.
More raiding stats were released this week from MMO-Champion about class popularity in heroic Siege of Orgrimmar, and the CtR crew weeds through the data to get to the important stuff. Plus, the Warcraft movie finishes its first week of filming, the CtR Guild anniversary celebration wraps up, the guys answer your questions and more in this exciting episode!
Mon, 20 January 2014
This week, former Blizzard lead developer Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street revealed his new gig at Riot Games. While the CtR gang were sure that was the most likely scenario, there was someone we have to thank for cracking the case -- Mr. Magoops, Cat Detective. And we’ll even play his story!
Big news broke on the World of Warcraft website: digital copies of Warlords of Draenor will be available SOON™ for pre-order. And when you purchase, you’ll receive the pet, the mount, and even your free boost to 90. Blizzard also hinted that the closed beta will be coming in the next several weeks as well. While everyone is excited about this, there are some words that bring up concerns of when WoD will actually drop.
Siege of Orgrimmar is getting some nerfs this week, and Lead Encounter Designer Ion Hazzikostas took to the forums to reassure raiders that these will only be targeted nerfs on several of the last encounters of the raid. Most nerfs are to smooth out progression further or help 10 man teams getting stuck on specific mechanics, and the guys give their take on why this is great news.
The Convert to Raid Guild on Aerie Peak - US celebrates its first anniversary this week, and the guys give you a little more detail on some of the inner workings of the guild and how we’re able to keep it running with the help of some very special people.
Of course there’s a ton more inside, so sit back, relax, and laugh along with Convert to Raid!
Mon, 13 January 2014
This week the guys have plenty to talk about as everyone from Blizzard seems to have finally come back from the winter break!
More raiding stats are unleashed on the internet as MMO-Champion takes a look at heroic progression. Only 0.23% of active raiders have downed heroic Garrosh, but what does that mean in the scheme of things?
Blizzard’s Lead Encounter Designer Ion Hazzikostas joined Twitter this week and had plenty to say about some of the upcoming plans (or lack thereof) for the future of raiding. But is short form social media a good thing for players looking to glean some insight, or is it all too much noise for the average consumer?
Hazzikostas did state via Twitter that there were no plans for a raid-wide nerf in Siege of Orgrimmar. The players discuss whether (and when) they think it’s going to come, and how big of an influence Flex Raids are in the equation.
Also, with the flexible raiding system and the proposed Group Finder tool for Warlords, where does LFR fit in the next expansion? The guys tell you their reasons why Blizzard needs to nerf this feature even further in the future.
And… Convert to Raid is covering PvP news? Sure! Afterall, the announcement of a new PvP season could point to when the next expansion may drop. The crew updates their calendars and make new predictions based off the latest information.
And Pat, Koltrane and Dairies wrap up last week’s segment on how to be a better raid leader for 2014 with some more advice on communication and taking a look at different loot systems around the World of Warcraft.
Mon, 6 January 2014
Happy New Year from Convert to Raid! The guys kick off 2014 with an extremely informative show, so get ready!
WoWProgress.com released a series of statistics comparing Siege of Orgrimmar to Throne of Thunder, both with the number of players and guilds downing bosses and the number of players still considered “active.” Pat, Dairies and Koltrane make sure to compare apples to apples as they sort out the numbers to figure out whether or not WoW is losing raiders.
A bomb was dropped from Chadd “Celestalon” Nervig on Twitter -- there will be no primary stats on gems for the next expansion! What does that mean for players, and more importantly, what does it mean for Jewelcrafters? What should we expect in Warlords, and should the Blizzard developers be rethinking the way professions work?
If you made a new year’s resolution to be a better raider (or raid leader), the CtR crew has got you covered! You’ll get an in depth discussion of how raiders and raid leaders can improve their preparation, performance, attitude and communication to make sure that your raid team is firing on all cylinders!
Mon, 23 December 2013
This week, the crew has their yearly Winter Veil special, talking about all of the latest WoW news, playing some of their best bits from the year, and more!
There is no more “magic number” in flex raiding as the developers have released their plan for Warlords of Draenor a little early. Now flexible raiding is even more flexible, minimizing perceived encounter breakpoints with a system that better scales to each group size. While some mechanics in Siege of Orgrimmar won’t scale as easily as others, there shouldn’t be a strong need to keep flex teams to a certain number of members.
The Warcraft movie announced two more actors joining the fray, with Daniel Wu and Clancy Brown. Both are veteran actors well known for action, so the players are getting amped up to think about the possibilities for this epic film.
The guys then turn the show over to you, as they take calls and answer your questions! Not only will the cast reveal fun information about themselves, but also talk about gear in SoO, discuss raiding in previous expansions, tackle the PvP vs. PvE debate, look back on the CtR Guild, as well as give great advice for those just stepping into heroics now.
Plus, grab some Noggenfogger and listen in on a few of our favorite comedy skits from 2013, celebrate, and look forward to a spectacular new year!
Mon, 16 December 2013
This week, Pat Krane and Koltrane welcome Derevka (from Something Wicked, Whisperwind US) back to the show to talk about the latest happenings in World of Warcraft!
The 5-Man Dungeons of Warlords of Draenor are put under the CtR microscope as a new post on the EU forums went up about difficulty levels proposed for the next expansion. Is there a way that Blizzard can create meaningful, long lasting 5-man content for raiders, and how will it stack up against other VP grinds like scenarios? The guys take a look at the issue from several different angles, coming up with some possible solutions.
The recently disbanded guild <vodka> is planning to rejoin the top raiding guilds in the world for Warlords, but will their new, more casual plan be a help or a hinderance for their rankings? Plus, as a ton of 10 man teams like Paragon venture into Mythic content, what will that do for the race to world first?
Derevka, Pat and Koltrane also talk in depth about healing, including healing meters vs. performance, discipline priests vs. other healing styles, and whether or not healing roles in World of Warcraft need a serious update.
Plus, they go back into the War Room to discuss the second encounter in Siege of Orgrimmar in both normals and heroics, try to get to your questions and a lot more!
Mon, 9 December 2013
This week, the guys are back for another look at the latest buzz in the WoW community!
The Warcraft movie announced some of their cast members this week including Rob Kazinski, who claims to have a huge WoW background and plays a mean DK. How important is it for our crew that the cast and crew of the movie play World of Warcraft? Is there a meaningful difference to us if these guys are fans of the movie magic they’re producing?
Armory Stats show (as reported by MMO-Champion) that raiding numbers in Mists of Pandaria have dropped steadily over the expansion, with only 10% of raiders completing Siege of Orgrimmar. Has the luster of raiding worn off, is the pain and toxicity of LFR too much for players to handle, or is it just a matter of time before those numbers start climbing again?
It was Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street’s last day last week, so how can we welcome the newest guy (Celestalon) to the forefront of the Blizzard community? By blaming him, of course… for everything!
Raegwyn is back at downing bosses all by himself, and recently he took on (and defeated) Dark Animus in 10 man normal. Find out how he did it, and what other encounters we should expect being soloed soon!
Could Blizzcon be changing for the future? The Blizzcon follow up survey from this year certainly alludes that could be, possibly even splitting the panels from esports. The guys break down how it could happen
All that, plus there are a ton of viewer questions in the mail bag, so Pat, Koltrane and Dairies give you their insights on your questions!
Mon, 2 December 2013
Covert to Raid #121 - Ghostcrawler Calls It Quits!
This week on CtR, Treckie from the top guild in the world (Method) joins Koltrane and Pat Krane to talk about the latest news and views from around World of Warcraft, including a big shake up at Blizzard Entertainment!
Greg Street announced that after almost six years as Lead Systems Designer he’s calling it quits and moving on to new (as yet undisclosed) opportunities. The guys discuss what Ghostcrawler has meant to the WoW Community over the years, and Koltrane’s cat left some clues as to where he might end up. Plus, the guys take a stroll down Memory Lane to their favorite G.C. moments.
It may have been a short work week here in the U.S., but Community Manager Crithto released a huge post on gearing and stats for Warlords of Draenor. Will gearing be simplified for the next expansion, or will it be just as confusing? The guys discuss some interesting developments and what it could mean for players at the end game.
A warlock from Russia (YouTube handle: Snowball) managed to solo Immerseus in the Siege of Orgrimmar raid instance! Was this flawed design, or are warlocks that overpowered? The crew weighs in with their opinions on having anyone be able to solo current content.
Treckie comes fresh from DreamHack Winter and gives some great insights on raiding in a top guild, including his views on Mists of Pandaria raiding and what’s to come for Warlords of Draenor. And if you want to take your game to the next level, he’s got some stellar advice.
All of that and more on a very fun show!
Mon, 25 November 2013
Happy Pilgrims Bounty! This week: Pat Krane, Koltrane and Dairies dig a little deeper into some of the new features revealed at Blizzcon in a very fun show with a couple of classic CtR bits just in time for Turkey Day.
A new post-Blizzcon video with the devs has surfaced, and with that come some new insights to Mythic Raiding, and the guys take a look at the pros and cons of the new system from all types of raid difficulties. More information on garrisons was revealed through the interview, including why they weren’t implemented for guilds. But what does the CtR crew want and expect from such a feature?
Plus, more on armor changes from Ghostcrawler, speed kills now on WoWProgress.com, patch 5.4.2 and you, and we get to a ton of viewer questions. Plus, Dairies moves west, Pat gets shushed, and Koltrane loves your brains.

The guys are back with another fun show full of the latest news and views in WoW! Blizzard puts one WoW expansion rumor to rest and clears up exactly what they'll be doing at Blizzcon. Players are trying to min/max flex raids, but are they just overthinking the whole thing? Guild Ox claims that every Mage spec is good, but how's popularity for other specs? And we'll get to your questions as well, especially one on the Legendary LOOT! Plus, Koltrane drinks spicy water, Dairies wipes on a homerun, and Zhug clearly doesn't get how to write a show.

This week the guys are back at it again and talking raiding and more! Garrosh is on the run as the top teams in the world try for the world first. Mon, 23 September 2013
Zhug and Dairies welcome Jules Scott from Tauren Think Tank back to the show, and they have a LOT to talk about. The race to world first is underway, and the pacing is fast! The first wing of LFR is now open, and do players need an adjustment on expectations for Flex? Are 5 man dungeons no longer needed, or does Blizzard need to change up their thinking on what raiders really want? And are the Legendary cloaks too powerful to ignore? We'll attempt to answer those questions, plus: Dairies goes 13 of 28 in SoO, Jules loves her mushrooms, and Zhug works it on the mailbox for repair money, and much more!
